Ridgway Residential Underpin
221 micropiles up to 116 feet deep for a full foundation underpin and elevation recovery on a large custom home, 48 of them installed in a crawl space with only 2 to 4 feet of headroom.
Ridgway Residential Underpin
Dickerson Construction contracted Park Range Construction to perform a full foundation underpin and elevation recovery on a large custom home in Ridgway, on Colorado's Western Slope, working with SBSA, the engineer of record, and Hayes Consulting, the geotechnical engineer.
We installed 221 micropiles up to 116 feet deep. Forty-eight of the 4½-inch micropiles were installed from inside the crawl space for the interior columns, with only 2 to 4 feet of headroom. Crews moved around the crawl space on mechanic's creeper boards and hand-excavated a 6-foot-deep hole at each pile location to make room for the drill mast.
The foundation elevation was recovered with 30 rams, each with 25 tons of capacity, connected to a central hydraulic manifold. Verification and proof load tests were performed on 20 piles.
Scope of work
- 221 micropiles up to 116 ft deep
- 48 crawl-space piles with 2–4 ft of headroom
- Elevation recovery with 30 × 25-ton rams on a central manifold
- Verification and proof load testing on 20 piles
- TEI MP250 man-portable and TEI 350 skid-mounted drills
