Case study · Road & bridge micropiles

Crawford Gulch MSE Wall

Two hundred micropiles, including cased 6-inch piles and battered 4½-inch piles, to support an MSE wall along a creek for Jefferson County Road & Bridge.

The project

Crawford Gulch MSE Wall

Crawford Gulch needed foundation support for a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall built along the creek, with the drilling done from the slope and creek bank.

Park Range installed 200 micropiles for Colt & Steel and Jefferson County Road & Bridge. The 6-inch piles used 5.5-inch OD threaded casing, and the 4½-inch piles were installed battered (at an angle).

Excavator-mounted drills kept the equipment footprint small along the creek.

Scope of work

  • 6-inch micropiles with 5.5-inch OD threaded casing
  • Battered 4½-inch micropiles
  • Excavator-mounted drilling on a slope next to the creek
